House Of The Dragon Just Perfectly Foreshadowed The Rhaenyra Targaryen Moment I’m Most Excited For

In episode 2 of House of the Dragon season 2, a brief but key scene hints at a massive development for Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen that I’m excited to watch unfold. With the Dance of the Dragons kicking off, House of the Dragon season 2’s cast and characters are ready for a fight packing powerful dragons, a fierce drive for payback, and a readiness for battle on both sides. Despite no big fights happening yet, House of the Dragon is laying the groundwork for upcoming massive fights, scheming, and setbacks as the Targaryens start acting more like fierce fighters.

One of these moments arrives before House of the Dragon season 2, episode 2’s ending. Rhaenyra takes a book out of her library to read, which explores the history and exploits of Queen Visenya Targaryen, the sister-wife of Aegon the Conqueror. As Rhaenyra flips through the pages about the legendary warrior queen in her own Targaryen family tree, the images that House of the Dragon focuses on foreshadow an event that Rhaenyra herself will experience soon. After seeing so much of her pain and her need to reclaim the Iron Throne, it’s the feat of hers that I’m most excited about in House of the Dragon.

Rhaenyra Reading About Visenya Foreshadows The Upcoming Fall Of King’s Landing

A moment in Rhaenyra’s war will soon reflect the image of Visenya

Fire & Blood shows that Rhaenyra avoids combat, but her attack on King’s Landing marks her bold move into the clutches of war as she claims her taken right. I’m eager to watch Rhaenyra capture the Iron Throne and the crown her dad left her; with her patience worn thin after Aegon’s crowning. Like past warrior queens, Rhaenyra won’t hang back waiting for the Greens to fold. Instead, she’s going to make them listen to her demands while riding Syrax.
I’m Happy House Of The Dragon Is Making Rhaenyra A Fighter In The Dance

“Since Aegon was crowned, Rhaenyra has been waiting for the right time to take the Iron Throne and crown that her father gave to her, and I can’t wait to finally see her seize it.”

predicting King’s Landing’s doom—it prepares her to battle more in the show than in the book. In Fire & Blood, Rhaenyra’s stint in danger at King’s Landing riding Syrax, was a lone instance. Yet, House of the Dragon seems keen on making Rhaenyra get ready to fend for herself and clash in the Dance of the Dragons just as Visenya did in Aegon’s Conquest.
The trailer for House of the Dragon season 2 already showed us Rhaenyra learning to handle a sword, so I’m thrilled she’s planning to fight her own battles. It looks like witnessing her powerlessness during the Duel of the Cargyll Twins made her want to avoid ever feeling so helpless. Since Rhaenys flew into danger during the Dance, it’s great to see Rhaenyra preparing to follow her example.
House of the Dragon will show King’s Landing’s fall. It aims to make a Game of Throne episode better.

The circumstances are incredibly different, but it will be relieving to see a Targaryen queen take the Iron Throne back without so much division about how she accomplished it. Visenya, Rhaenyra, and Daenerys are the only queens in House Targaryen’s history to make their enemies surrender while riding in on dragonback, but all go about it in different ways. Unfortunately, like Daenerys’ short-lived time on the Iron Throne, Rhaenyra won’t have a hold on King’s Landing for too long after she finally takes it in House of the Dragon.

While the situations vary greatly, it will be satisfying to see a Targaryen queen reclaim the Iron Throne without sparking so much controversy over her methods. Visenya, Rhaenyra, and Daenerys are the notable Targaryen queens who have forced their enemies to yield by arriving on dragonback, each employing a different approach. Sadly, similar to Daenerys’ brief reign, Rhaenyra’s control over King’s Landing will also be short-lived after her eventual triumph in House of the Dragon.

New episodes of House of the Dragon season 2 release Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and Max.
