Knowing one character will die soon, House of the Dragon is doing a great job of getting me ready for sadness. I’ve read Fire & Blood and know lots of big plot points, so you might think the TV show wouldn’t be as good, but season 2 has already proven that wrong. Yes, there are many House of the Dragon book changes that surprise me and add some shock. But looking back, I knew about the Red Wedding in Game of Thrones, and I still cried a lot.
George R.R. Martin’s world known for its twists, focuses on its characters. To me, the best part of House of the Dragon is not how they show the book’s shocking events, but how they give depth to characters who were not well-explained before. I did not expect to care so much for King Viserys or to dislike Criston Cole so . The cast of House of the Dragon does a fantastic job at adding layers, and one character, though not obvious, has become more significant to me.
Jacaerys Recalling Harwin Strong Deepens the Sadness of His Eventual Fall in House Of The Dragon
Jacaerys Exhibits His Kind Spirit and Principles Pointing Out the Tragedy of His Future Demise
Jacaerys Velaryon didn’t get many chances to shine in the first season, with actor Harry Collett taking on the role later. In season 2, Jace has become a highlight for me even though he’s still a supporting character. His journey to the North altered him, as seen in his new behaviors. Yet, he remains a boy mourning his younger brother’s death and taking over as the man of the house without his two fathers. His conversation with Baela about Ser Harwin Strong started my early sorrow for his eventual death.
Jace helps Rhaenyra taking his place beside her even if he’s not ready, showing Ser Harwin’s kind and noble ways and Ser Laenor’s courage.
Jace knows Harwin is his dad, which is just one part of the scene. He also shows us he’s growing . As a boy, Jace lost the two men who were like dads to him. Even though he’s not prepared, Jace fills their shoes to support Rhaenyra. He takes on Harwin’s kind heart and Laenor’s bravery. Jace works hard to show their good sides, but it’s a lot for someone his age making his passing even sadder.
Jacaerys’s Death in House of the Dragon and the Show’s Setup
Jacaerys Falls During the Gullet Battle
House of the Dragon has already started setting up Jacaerys Velaryon’s death with Lord Corlys Velaryon’s blockade of the Gullet. The Gullet links Driftmark to the Crownlands and the blockade stops a lot of the sea trade going to King’s Landing. This leads to the naval Battle of the Gullet, which I am both excited and scared to see. I am thrilled to watch a big sea battle with dragons, but I am not ready for Jace’s death.
Jacaerys joins other dragonriders on Rhaenyra’s team to fight the Triarchy’s fleet at the Battle of the Gullet. They aim to end Lord Corlys’s blockade. Before he loses his position as Hand of the King, Otto Hightower gets help from the Triarchy in Fire & Blood. He uses their dislike for Daemon from season 1 to convince them to support the Greens. The Greens come to this battle without any dragonriders. However, as Jace flies too low within their range, the Triarchy navy shoots him down with crossbow bolts.
When Will Jacaerys Die in House of the Dragon Season 3?
He may die in Season 3, given how the story events are planned.
House of the Dragon will show the Battle of Rook’s Rest in Season 2. Since we haven’t seen any clips of the Battle of the Gullet in trailers, it’s likely to occur in Season 3. The show has already introduced the Gullet blockade quite a few times, and there’s a lot more story to tell in Season 3. So, it could happen in that season.
